Vietnam is located in the tropical and temperate zone. Due to differences in latitude the climate of Vietnam varies from place to place. Southern Vietnam experiences a sub-equatorial climate with two main seasons: the wet season lasts from May through to November and the dry season extends from December to April. February, March and April are typically hot and humid. Coastal central Vietnam is characterised by coastal lowlands and, unlike the southern and northern areas of Vietnam, they do not experience significant amounts of rainfall between April and October. Most rain falls on the central coastal lowlands between December and February. It is worth noting that some cities in the central region such as Danang, Hue, Hoi An and areas around Hai Van Pass enjoy mild climate due to its typography. Northern Vietnam experiences a cool to cold winter (November - March) with overnight temperatures sometimes dropping to as low as 10 degrees Celsius. The rains fall from May to October and it is typically warm at this time of the year. In the North of Vietnam (from Hai Van Pass toward to the North) the four distinct seasons are most evident : Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. In general, the best time to visit Vietnam is any time and the good weather can always be found in at least one region in the whole country.
