Vietnam contains a rich mixture of religion

Vietnam contains a rich mixture of religions, reflecting the influences of many cultures. Traditional Vietnamese religion included elements from Indian beliefs and three Chinese religious systems: Mahayana Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism. Other religions include relatively new sects such as Hoa Hao, associated with Buddhism, and Caodaism, a synthesis of Christianity, Buddhism, and Confucianism. Christianity, particularly the Roman Catholic church, claims as many as 6 million followers.

Today, the majority of Vietnamese are at least nominally Mahayana Buddhists. Of this number, only a minority are serious adherents. Roman Catholicism, which French missionaries introduced in the 17th century, is a major religion, claiming almost as many followers as Daoism. Other religions include such recently established sects as Hoa Hao (a variant of Buddhism practiced in the Mekong Delta) and Cao Dai, which blends various Asian and Western religious beliefs. Theravada Buddhism is practiced by the Khmer minority. Some tribal peoples practice spirit worship. Freedom of worship is guaranteed by the constitution, but the Communist government suppresses religious organizations and activities that it considers threatening to national security.

Nominally, the religions in Vietnam include: Mahayana Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism (called a "confidante"). There are some small groups of believers of other denominations such as Roman Catholic, Cao Dai and Hoa Hao. The religious groups have fewer than devotees including Theravada Buddhism, Christianity and Islam.
Most of Vietnam most people see who they are but has no threshold, although they also have a ceremony in the temple a few times a year.

Spirituality in Vietnam plays a major role in everyone's daily life. Vietnam has a diverse mix of religions.

Superstition plays more than just a passing role in the Vietnamese Society. It is part of tradition and customs passed down from one generation to the next. In everyday life, a Vietnamese often relies on his personal prejudices, his emotions and the trusted word of his forefathers to guide him.
