Hanoi, the culture candle of Vietnam will ceremonially held a ten-day festival from October 1 – October 10, 2010 to welcome the 1000th birthday. Thang Long, which is Ha Noi's centre nowadays, was chosen by Ly Thai To - the founding king of Ly Dynasty since Autumn of 1010. Thang Long means ascending dragon, symbolizing the will and thirst for independence of the Vietnamese people after more than one thousand years of Chinese domination.

Having experienced with nearly 1000 historical years of foundation and development and thanks to specific characteristics of geography – history and geography – humanities, Hanoi today becomes one of the biggest tourism – culture center with a plenty of cultural heritages, historical monuments.
The 1000th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi will be an important event for the capital and the country in general. This grand ceremony is aimed at expressing gratefulness to ancestors who made great contribution to national construction and defense, and passing this historical tradition on to the masses. It is also an occasion for young generation to broaden their knowledge of magnanimous history of the nationality.

The plan to welcome 1000 years of Thang Long – Hanoi includes a drive to create literature and arts, build outstanding works, hold events according to the count-down clock from 2008 and especially a hold great festival which will occur from October 1 – October 10, 2010. This will be an occasion to introduce Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular to all over the world.
Toward the millennium of the capital city, each and every Hanoian is striving their best to make contributions to the development of Hanoi and the country as well.
